Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, candidates must meet all criteria:

  • Both Canadian and international applicants are eligible.
  • Applicants should also apply for funding from relevant provincial and national or international agencies. For Canadians, this could include NSHRF, NSERC, NSGS, SSHRC, CIHR, etc. as applicable to their discipline. For international applicants, they should have applied for provincial scholarships (NSGS, etc.) as well as national/international awards.
  • Scholars must be eligible for at least 24 months of scholarship support. This means that at the master’s level only new students will be considered. And at PhD level, only those who have spent less than two years in the program by 1 May of the award year will be considered.

Entry Requirements:

Students should have the following requirements:

  • Degree awarded by an accredited university
  • Language Requirements: Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate their ability to pursue graduate programs in English in order to be admitted. However, the language proficiency test may be waived if the applicant has completed a degree from an accredited university where English is the medium of instruction in a country where English is the national language.


  • Masters (Level 1): $6666.66 per semester plus ITF (for international students) plus relocation allowance (if applicable)
  • Doctorate (Level 2): ​​$10,000 per semester plus relocation allowance (if applicable) plus the President’s Award for two years.
